Psalm 92^[a]

A psalm. A song. For the Sabbath day.

¹It is good to praise the Lord
    and make music^(A) to your name,^(B) O Most High,^(C)
²proclaiming your love in the morning^(D)
    and your faithfulness at night,
³to the music of the ten-stringed lyre^(E)
    and the melody of the harp.^(F)

⁴For you make me glad by your deeds, Lord;
I sing for joy^(G) at what your hands have done.^(H)

¹²The righteous will flourish^(A) like a palm tree,
    they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon;^(B)
¹³planted in the house of the Lord,
    they will flourish in the courts of our God.^(C)
¹⁴They will still bear fruit^(D) in old age,
    they will stay fresh and green,
¹⁵proclaiming, “The Lord is upright;
    he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him.^(E)”

and do not return to it

⁵¹Listen, I tell you a mystery:^(A) We will not all sleep,^(B) but we will all be changed^(C)— ⁵²in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound,^(D) the dead^(E) will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. ⁵³For the perishable^(F) must clothe itself with the imperishable,^(G) and the mortal with immortality. ⁵⁴When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”^[a]^(H)

⁵⁵“Where, O death, is your victory?
Where, O death, is your sting?”^[b]^(I)

⁵⁶The sting of death is sin,^(J) and the power of sin is the law.^(K) ⁵⁷But thanks be to God!^(L) He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.^(M)

⁵⁸Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord,^(N) because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.^(O)

Luke 6:39-49

³⁹He also told them this parable: “Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into a pit?^(A) ⁴⁰The student is not above the teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher.^(B)

⁴¹“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? ⁴²How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

A Tree and Its Fruit^(C)

⁴³“No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. ⁴⁴Each tree is recognized by its own fruit.^(D) People do not pick figs from thornbushes, or grapes from briers. ⁴⁵A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.^(E)

The Wise and Foolish Builders^(F)

⁴⁶“Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’^(G) and do not do what I say?^(H) ⁴⁷As for everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice,^(I) I will show you what they are like. ⁴⁸They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. ⁴⁹But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.”
